OVERVIEW: The Tp 617 is a heavyweight, wire-guided export variant of the Swedish Tp 613 torpedo, developed in the early 1980s for submarine deployment. It retains the Tp 613’s high-speed HTP/ethanol propulsion and advanced homing systems, optimized for anti-ship engagement.

DETAILS: “Tp” stands for Torped, and “617” specifies the export version of the domestically used Tp 613. The Tp 617 shares the 533 mm diameter, ~7 m length, ~1 850 kg weight, and 300 kg warhead of its Swedish counterpart, using a two-speed HTP/ethanol piston engine delivering speeds over 60 kn . It incorporates two-way wire guidance, active/passive acoustic, and wake-homing sensors, with export software settings that slightly reduce hydrophone sensitivity and fuse performance. The torpedo supports mid-course updates via wire and terminal homing against surface ships.

TYPE: Heavyweight Wire-Guided Anti-Ship Torpedo (Export Variant)

FUNCTION: Launched from 533 mm submarine torpedo tubes, the Tp 617 travels under wire guidance for mid-course path corrections. In the terminal phase it activates acoustic and wake-homing to precisely strike surface vessels at high speed.
